Is an Electric Pizza Oven Worth It? The Best Way to Make Restaurant-Style Pizza at Home
Why an Electric Pizza Oven Is the Best Upgrade for Homemade Pizza Most people struggle to recreate restaurant-style pizza at home because conventional ovens rarely reach the temperatures needed for authentic pizza cooking. The result is often soft crusts, uneven toppings, or soggy pizza bases. An electric pizza oven solves this problem by generating concentrated high heat that cooks pizza faster and more evenly. Combined with a pizza stone surface, this helps create crispy crusts, bubbling cheese, and authentic texture similar to restaurant pizza ovens. For home cooks who regularly make pizza, an electric pizza oven is one of the most effective kitchen upgrades for improving flavour, texture, and cooking consistency. Why Homemade Pizza Often Fails in Standard Ovens Traditional ovens are designed for general-purpose cooking rather than high-temperature pizza baking. The biggest issues usually include: Oven temperatures that are too low Uneven heat distribution Soft pizza bases Excess moisture in dough Longer cooking times This is why many homemade pizzas lack the crisp texture associated with restaurant pizza. What Makes an Electric Pizza Oven Different? Electric pizza ovens are specifically designed to replicate the intense cooking environment required for authentic pizza. Unlike standard ovens, they focus direct heat onto the pizza surface and stone. This helps: Crisp the pizza base faster Melt cheese evenly Reduce soggy centres Improve crust texture Shorten cooking times Many home cooks immediately notice the difference in crust quality after switching to a dedicated pizza oven. Can an Electric Pizza Oven Really Make Crispy Pizza? Yes. One of the main advantages of electric pizza ovens is moisture reduction. Pizza stones absorb excess moisture from dough during cooking, helping create the crisp underside that many people struggle to achieve using standard oven trays. This is especially important for: Thin crust pizza Neapolitan-style pizza Homemade dough Fresh mozzarella toppings Stone-baked pizza texture Is an Electric Pizza Oven Better Than a Conventional Oven? For pizza cooking specifically, many people prefer electric pizza ovens because they are purpose-built for high-temperature cooking. Compared with conventional ovens, electric pizza ovens often provide: Feature Conventional Oven Electric Pizza Oven Preheat Speed Slower Faster Pizza Texture Softer Crispier Heat Concentration General Focused Cooking Time Longer Shorter Authentic Results Moderate High Best Foods You Can Cook Besides Pizza Electric pizza ovens are surprisingly versatile. Many people also use them for: Garlic bread Flatbreads Calzones Reheated pizza Nachos Roasted vegetables Naan bread Quesadillas This makes them useful for far more than occasional pizza nights. Who Should Buy an Electric Pizza Oven? Electric pizza ovens are especially useful for: Families - Fast cooking makes pizza nights easier. Apartment Kitchens - Compact countertop designs suit smaller spaces. Home Entertainers - Guests can cook pizzas quickly in batches. Pizza Enthusiasts - Ideal for people who regularly make homemade dough. Common Pizza Mistakes to Avoid: Using Cold Dough - Cold dough often cooks unevenly and can become dense. Adding Too Many Toppings - Excess toppings create moisture and prevent crisp cooking. Skipping Preheating - Pizza ovens perform best when fully heated before cooking. Using Thick Layers of Sauce - Too much sauce can create soggy pizza centres. Why Pizza Stones Matter Pizza stones play a major role in creating authentic pizza texture. They help: Absorb moisture from dough Improve heat retention Create crispier crusts Distribute heat evenly This is why many restaurant-style pizzas rely on stone cooking surfaces. Why the Blackmoor Electric Pizza Oven Works for Modern Kitchens The Blackmoor Electric Pizza Oven is designed for people who want authentic homemade pizza without needing a large outdoor setup. Its compact countertop design makes it practical for modern kitchens while still delivering the high-temperature cooking needed for crisp pizza. For households that regularly enjoy homemade pizza, it offers a fast, convenient, and more consistent cooking experience. Frequently Asked Questions Does an electric pizza oven use a lot of electricity? No. Because electric pizza ovens heat quickly and cook faster than standard ovens, they can often reduce overall cooking energy usage. Can you cook frozen pizza in an electric pizza oven? Yes. Electric pizza ovens are excellent for frozen pizza because the intense heat helps crisp the base quickly. What temperature cooks pizza best? Pizza generally cooks best at very high temperatures, which is why dedicated pizza ovens often outperform conventional ovens. Are pizza ovens worth buying? For people who regularly make pizza at home, dedicated pizza ovens can dramatically improve texture, consistency, and cooking speed. Can beginners use electric pizza ovens? Yes. Most electric pizza ovens are designed to be simple and beginner-friendly while still delivering professional-style results. To find out more about the Blackmoor Electric Pizza Oven, click here
Read moreWhat Is a Coffee Percolator? Why Coffee Lovers Still Prefer Percolated Coffee
Why a Coffee Percolator Creates Richer, Hotter Coffee at Home Most modern coffee machines prioritise convenience, but many coffee drinkers still believe traditional percolators produce a richer, hotter, and more satisfying cup of coffee. The reason comes down to how percolators brew coffee. Unlike standard drip coffee machines that pass water through coffee grounds once, percolators continuously cycle hot water through the grounds during brewing. This repeated extraction process creates a fuller-bodied flavour and a much stronger coffee aroma. For people who enjoy bold coffee without the complexity of espresso machines or expensive pod systems, electric coffee percolators remain one of the simplest and most underrated brewing methods available. The Quest Electric Coffee Percolator sold through Blackmoor Home is designed specifically for people who want traditional coffee flavour with modern convenience. Why Does Percolated Coffee Taste Different? Percolated coffee tastes different because the brewing process extracts flavour more aggressively than standard filter coffee machines. In a percolator, boiling water repeatedly travels upward through a central tube before passing over coffee grounds multiple times. This creates: Stronger flavour Fuller body Richer aroma Hotter coffee More traditional coffee taste Many coffee drinkers describe percolated coffee as tasting “bolder” or “deeper” compared with standard drip coffee. This is one reason coffee percolators remain popular among people who prefer classic-style coffee rather than lighter café-style brews. Why Coffee Lovers Still Buy Percolators Coffee percolators have existed for decades, yet they continue to attract loyal users because they solve several common frustrations associated with modern coffee machines. 1. Hotter Coffee One of the most common complaints about drip coffee makers is temperature loss. Percolators are known for producing very hot coffee, which many people prefer during colder mornings or when drinking multiple cups slowly over time. 2. Stronger Flavour Percolators naturally produce a bolder brew because water repeatedly circulates through the coffee grounds. For people who find standard filter coffee weak or watery, percolators often deliver the flavour profile they are looking for. 3. Larger Brewing Capacity A larger-capacity electric coffee percolator can produce enough coffee for: Families Guests Offices Meetings Weekend breakfasts The Blackmoor 1.8L model produces approximately 9–12 cups, making it useful for households that regularly brew multiple servings. 4. Simpler Brewing Experience Many people do not want: complicated settings expensive pods app-connected machines constant maintenance Electric coffee percolators offer a much more straightforward brewing process: Add water Add coffee Switch on Brew That simplicity is one reason percolators continue to maintain a loyal following. How Does an Electric Coffee Percolator Work? An electric coffee percolator heats water at the base of the unit. As the water heats: It travels upward through a central tube It flows over the coffee grounds The brewed coffee returns downward The cycle repeats during brewing This repeated circulation is what creates the stronger flavour associated with percolated coffee. Is Percolated Coffee Stronger Than Filter Coffee? Usually, yes. Percolated coffee is generally stronger because the grounds are exposed to hot water multiple times during the brewing cycle. However, strength can still be adjusted based on: coffee quantity grind size brewing duration People who prefer lighter coffee can simply shorten brewing time or reduce coffee volume. Why Grind Size Matters in a Percolator One of the biggest mistakes people make with percolators is using coffee grounds that are too fine. Fine grounds can: over-extract increase bitterness create sediment reduce flavour balance Medium to coarse grounds are usually recommended for electric coffee percolators because they create a cleaner and smoother brew. Common Mistakes That Make Percolated Coffee Taste Bitter Percolators sometimes receive criticism for producing bitter coffee, but this usually comes down to incorrect brewing technique rather than the appliance itself. Brewing Too Long Over-brewing repeatedly extracts the grounds and increases bitterness. Using Fine Ground Coffee Fine grounds extract too aggressively in percolators. Leaving Coffee on Heat Too Long Coffee can become overcooked if left heating excessively after brewing. Using Too Little Coffee Weak ratios can reduce flavour quality and balance. Who Should Buy an Electric Coffee Percolator? Electric coffee percolators are ideal for: People Who Prefer Strong Coffee - Percolators naturally create fuller flavour. Households Brewing Multiple Cups - Larger capacities reduce repeated brewing. Traditional Coffee Drinkers - Many people simply prefer classic percolated flavour. Simplicity-Focused Buyers - Percolators avoid complicated technology and expensive capsules. Office Kitchens - Larger-capacity models are practical for shared spaces. Electric Percolator vs Pod Coffee Machine Feature Electric Percolator Pod Coffee Machine Coffee Strength Bold Moderate Running Costs Lower Higher Coffee Pods Required No Yes Brewing Style Traditional Automated Capacity Large Usually Single Serve Maintenance Simple Moderate For households drinking multiple coffees daily, electric percolators can also become significantly cheaper long-term compared with pod systems. Why the Quest 1.8L Electric Coffee Percolator Works Well for Modern Homes The Quest Electric Coffee Percolator available through Blackmoor Home combines traditional brewing with practical everyday convenience. Key features include: 1.8L capacity approximately 9–12 cups keep-warm function reusable filter drip-free spout simple electric operation It is particularly well suited for: busy mornings shared households entertaining guests office coffee people who enjoy stronger coffee flavour The keep-warm function also helps maintain serving temperature without requiring reheating. Frequently Asked Questions Does a coffee percolator make better coffee? Many coffee drinkers believe percolators produce richer and stronger coffee compared with standard drip machines. Are electric coffee percolators easy to use? Yes. Most electric percolators are designed for simple plug-in brewing without complicated settings. Can you use normal ground coffee in a percolator? Yes, although medium to coarse ground coffee usually produces the best results. Do coffee percolators keep coffee warm? Many electric percolators include a keep-warm function after brewing is complete. Are coffee percolators cheaper than pod machines? Over time, percolators can be significantly cheaper because they do not require disposable coffee pods. How many cups does a 1.8L coffee percolator make? A 1.8L coffee percolator typically produces approximately 9–12 cups depending on serving size. To find out more about the Quest 1.8L Electric Coffee Percolator, sold by Blackmoor Home, click here.

Direct answer Yes — non-stick cookware is safe in the UK when it is modern, used correctly, and not damaged. The main safety concerns only come from older pans, overheating, or scratched coatings. Most modern non-stick pans are manufactured without the hazardous chemical PFOA. What actually matters Non-stick cookware has improved a lot in recent years. In the UK, most reputable brands now follow strict regulations, so the safety of your pan mostly depends on how you use it. The key factors are: The quality of the coating How high the heat is Whether the surface is damaged If those three things are under control, non-stick pans are generally safe for everyday cooking. At cooking temperatures above 260°C (degree Celsius) 500°F (degrees Fahrenheit), the PTFE (Teflon coating can deteriorate and release fumes which may cause health problems. When non-stick cookware becomes unsafe Non-stick pans can become a problem in real kitchens when: They are heated above medium–high temperatures regularly The coating becomes scratched or starts peeling Cheap or very old pans are still in use At that point, performance drops and it’s usually better to replace them. What to use instead If you’re upgrading or replacing old pans, most UK households move towards: Stainless steel cookware (most durable option) Shop: https://blackmoorhome.co.uk/collections/stainless-steel-necessities-pan-cookware-range No coating to wear off Handles high heat safely Long-term kitchen investment Hybrid stone cookware (balanced option) Shop: https://blackmoorhome.co.uk/collections/blue-pro-cookware Easier than stainless steel More durable than standard non-stick Everyday all-round performance Classic non-stick cookware (convenience option) Shop: https://blackmoorhome.co.uk/collections/classic-pan-cookware-range Easy cooking and cleaning Great for eggs, pancakes, low-fat meals Needs replacing more often than steel Simple takeaway Non-stick cookware is safe in the UK when it is modern and used properly, but stainless steel or hybrid cookware is often a better long-term choice because it avoids coating wear entirely. Frequently asked questions Is non-stick cookware safe in the UK? Yes — modern non-stick cookware is safe when it is used at normal cooking temperatures and not damaged. Can non-stick pans be harmful? Only if they are overheated, scratched, or very old and degraded. What is the safest cookware to use long-term? Stainless steel is widely considered the safest long-term option because it has no coating. Should I replace old non-stick pans? Yes — especially if the coating is peeling or visibly scratched.

More shoppers than ever are searching for PFAS-free cookware and ceramic non-stick pans - and it’s not just a trend. People want cookware that’s easy to use, easy to clean, and made with materials they feel confident using every day. In this guide, we’ll explain what ceramic non-stick is, what PFAS-free means, the key benefits, and what to look for if you’re buying new cookware in the UK. What is a ceramic non-stick coating? A ceramic non-stick coating is a smooth cooking surface designed to help food release easily and reduce sticking. Ceramic cookware is popular for: fuss-free cooking (food releases more easily) quicker clean-up a modern, premium look and feel What does PFAS-free cookware mean? PFAS refers to a large group of man-made chemicals sometimes called “forever chemicals” because they can persist in the environment for a long time. In cookware, PFAS-free typically means the coating is made without PFAS chemicals - and often also without PTFE and PFOA, which many shoppers recognise from older generations of non-stick. In practical terms: PFAS-free cookware is designed to avoid those chemical families in the cooking surface, which is a key reason people seek it out. Benefits of ceramic non-stick and PFAS-free cookware 1) Great non-stick performance with less oil Ceramic-coated pans can deliver excellent food release for everyday meals - eggs, pancakes, stir-fries, and fish. Many cooks find they can use less oil or butter while still getting great results. 2) Easier cleaning and less scrubbing The smooth ceramic surface helps reduce baked-on residue, so washing up is quicker. In many cases, warm water, mild detergent, and a soft sponge are all you need. 3) A coating designed without PFAS chemicals For shoppers choosing cookware more consciously, PFAS-free is an important feature. It’s one of the simplest “tick-box” checks for people wanting more reassurance in what they use every day. 4) Modern design that looks good in any kitchen Ceramic cookware often comes in contemporary finishes (like granite-effect exteriors) with design-led details. If you like a coordinated kitchen aesthetic, ceramic cookware sets can be a great way to refresh your essentials. How to care for ceramic non-stick pans (and make them last longer) Ceramic cookware is designed for convenience, but good habits help protect the surface and maintain performance: Use low to medium heat for most cooking Avoid metal utensils; use wood, silicone or nylon Let the pan cool before washing Use non-abrasive sponges What to look for when buying PFAS-free ceramic cookware in the UK When you’re comparing options, check for: Clear claims such as PFAS-free / PTFE-free / PFOA-free A strong pan body designed for even heating Comfortable, secure handles (cool-touch is a bonus) Induction compatibility if you need it A range of sizes and sets to suit your cooking style Discover the Blackmoor Sherwood cookware range (PFAS-free ceramic non-stick) If you’re looking for cookware that blends style, performance, and everyday practicality, the Blackmoor Sherwood range is designed to deliver. Pancake lovers around the country are getting ready for the day of the year we can all go ‘flipping’ mad, Pancake Day on 17th February 2026. This year, more so than any other, people are looking to TikTok for inspiration, hacks, and trends to help them cook up a storm in the kitchen. From pancake cereal to ditching pans and using cupcake trays – British cookware brand Blackmoor shares the newest and most creative ways to step away from the more classic crepe or American Style pancake and enjoy something new. Pancake Spaghetti This Pancake Spaghetti viral TikTok hack also called Squiggle Cakes, has gone crazy over the past few weeks. While this may sound like an odd pairing, it is just pancake batter cooked in thin strips instead of a regular circular pancake, with delicious buttery crisp edges. Pancake spaghetti is the perfect twist on an age-old classic! All you need to do is make your pancake mix as usual and place it into a piping bag. Cut a small hole at the end and drag the bag in a zig-zag motion across the pan. Cook on one side for around 30 seconds and then flip and cook for a further 20 seconds. Then serve with your desired toppings and enjoy. Chocolate Centred Pancakes If you’re a chocoholic – this is one for you. Start by adding two eggs into a bowl, then add 30g of sugar and a pinch of salt. Whisk to combine the ingredients while gradually adding 200ml of milk. Once all the milk is added, tip in 170g of all-purpose flour along with 16g of baking powder then whisk until you have a thick batter. Once your batter is smooth, fold in two pre-whisked egg whites - they should be thick and firm. Your final batter mixture should be thick and silky. Place small to medium-sized spoonfuls of batter into a hot, non-stick frying pan. As the underside is cooking, add a square of your favourite milk chocolate to the centre then cover with another small to medium-sized spoonful of batter. Take a peek at the underside of one of the mini pancakes to see if it has turned golden brown then flip them and cook the other side. Pancake Cereal If there was ever a wacky way to enjoy pancakes, then this is it! Mini Pancakes Cereal is the ultimate new trend to hit the internet (thank you TikTok!). You can easily whip them up in less than five minutes for breakfast, brunch, or as a cool dessert with a scoop of ice cream and lashings of chocolate fudge sauce. Whichever toppings you choose, whether it be maple syrup, berries, chocolate chips, banana slices or honey… you can’t go wrong! What is mini pancake cereal? They are little pieces of heaven, that’s what. Fluffy, crispy miniature-sized pancakes served in a bowl just as you would serve regular cereal, only better, because it’s pancakes. You can also add milk instead of syrup for a real cereal experience, but they will get soggy. The easiest way to make mini pancakes is with a sauce or condiment squeeze bottle. If you have an empty tomato ketchup bottle, you can use that too! Just be sure to clean and sterilise it in boiling water, then air it out before adding any batter. You can also use a ziplock bag if you have one handy: simply snip a bottom corner at an angle to make a small hole for piping (just big enough to squeeze the pancake batter out easily), OR a piping bag. And if you have none of those, a teaspoon works too. Heat a non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Let your pancake batter sit for about five minutes while your pan is heating up to release the gluten in the four and let the ingredients marry into each other. Gently squeeze small dollops of batter into the pan to make little circles and cook on each side for around 40 seconds to a minute. Repeat this as many times as you wish depending on how many pancakes you need. Serve up in a bowl with your favourite toppings and enjoy! Using a Cupcake Tray Here is an easy hack if you struggle to cook your pancakes in a pan. If you find pancakes are always sticking and you can never seem to flip them perfectly, try switching over to a cupcake tray instead. This makes pancakes even more exciting as you can add your choice of toppings that you want to be incorporated into the pancake. Simply add your regular pancake mixture into your non-stick cupcake pan, about halfway full. Then add your favourite savoury or sweet toppings, from cheese and chives to chocolate chips and strawberries - the opportunities are endless. You can refrigerate these in a sealed bag for three to four days and just place them in the microwave or oven to reheat. Using an Ice Tray Got an ice tray? You could save yourself some money ahead of Pancake Day this year by planning ahead as well as using up any surplus mixture. Just simply pour your made-up mixture or any that’s left over into an ice tray and place it into the freezer until needed. If you often find yourself running around and being late for everything, this is the perfect hack for you. On the day, all you’ll need to do is simply pop them out of the container onto a preheated, non-stick pan. Cook them for around four minutes and then simply flip them over and cook for a further minute. These can be used anytime, which means no waste, and this also makes sure that you don’t place too much mixture into the pancake pan at one time. For all your pancake pan needs, Blackmoor has got you covered. Check out the range here.
