Pancake lovers around the country are getting ready for the day of the year we can all go ‘flipping’ mad, Pancake Day on February 21. This year, more so than any other, people are looking to TikTok for inspiration, hacks, and trends to help them cook up a storm in the kitchen.

From pancake cereal to ditching pans and using cupcake trays – British cookware brand Blackmoor shares the newest and most creative ways to step away from the more classic crepe or American Style pancake and enjoy something new.

    Pancake Spaghetti

This Pancake Spaghetti viral TikTok hack also called Squiggle Cakes, has gone crazy over the past few weeks.

While this may sound like an odd pairing, it is just pancake batter cooked in thin strips instead of a regular circular pancake, with delicious buttery crisp edges.

Pancake spaghetti is the perfect twist on an age-old classic! All you need to do is make your pancake mix as usual and place it into a piping bag. Cut a small hole at the end and drag the bag in a zig-zag motion across the pan. Cook on one side for around 30 seconds and then flip and cook for a further 20 seconds. Then serve with your desired toppings and enjoy.

    Chocolate Centred Pancakes

If you’re a chocoholic – this is one for you. Start by adding two eggs into a bowl, then add 30g of sugar and a pinch of salt.

Whisk to combine the ingredients while gradually adding 200ml of milk. Once all the milk is added, tip in 170g of all-purpose flour along with 16g of baking powder then whisk until you have a thick batter.

Once your batter is smooth, fold in two pre-whisked egg whites - they should be thick and firm.

Your final batter mixture should be thick and silky.

Place small to medium-sized spoonfuls of batter into a hot, non-stick frying pan. As the underside is cooking, add a square of your favourite milk chocolate to the centre then cover with another small to medium-sized spoonful of batter.

Take a peek at the underside of one of the mini pancakes to see if it has turned golden brown then flip them and cook the other side.

    Pancake Cereal

If there was ever a wacky way to enjoy pancakes, then this is it!

Mini Pancakes Cereal is the ultimate new trend to hit the internet (thank you TikTok!). You can easily whip them up in less than five minutes for breakfast, brunch, or as a cool dessert with a scoop of ice cream and lashings of chocolate fudge sauce. Whichever toppings you choose, whether it be maple syrup, berries, chocolate chips, banana slices or honey… you can’t go wrong!

What is mini pancake cereal? They are little pieces of heaven, that’s what. Fluffy, crispy miniature-sized pancakes served in a bowl just as you would serve regular cereal, only better, because it’s pancakes. You can also add milk instead of syrup for a real cereal experience, but they will get soggy.

The easiest way to make mini pancakes is with a sauce or condiment squeeze bottle. If you have an empty tomato ketchup bottle, you can use that too! Just be sure to clean and sterilise it in boiling water, then air it out before adding any batter.

You can also use a ziplock bag if you have one handy: simply snip a bottom corner at an angle to make a small hole for piping (just big enough to squeeze the pancake batter out easily), OR a piping bag. And if you have none of those, a teaspoon works too.

Heat a non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Let your pancake batter sit for about five minutes while your pan is heating up to release the gluten in the four and let the ingredients marry into each other.

Gently squeeze small dollops of batter into the pan to make little circles and cook on each side for around 40 seconds to a minute. Repeat this as many times as you wish depending on how many pancakes you need.

Serve up in a bowl with your favourite toppings and enjoy!

    Using a Cupcake Tray

Here is an easy hack if you struggle to cook your pancakes in a pan.

If you find pancakes are always sticking and you can never seem to flip them perfectly, try switching over to a cupcake tray instead.

This makes pancakes even more exciting as you can add your choice of toppings that you want to be incorporated into the pancake.

Simply add your regular pancake mixture into your non-stick cupcake pan, about halfway full.

Then add your favourite savoury or sweet toppings, from cheese and chives to chocolate chips and strawberries - the opportunities are endless. You can refrigerate these in a sealed bag for three to four days and just place them in the microwave or oven to reheat.

    Using an Ice Tray

Got an ice tray? You could save yourself some money ahead of Pancake Day this year by planning ahead as well as using up any surplus mixture. Just simply pour your made-up mixture or any that’s left over into an ice tray and place it into the freezer until needed.

If you often find yourself running around and being late for everything, this is the perfect hack for you. On the day, all you’ll need to do is simply pop them out of the container onto a preheated, non-stick pan. Cook them for around four minutes and then simply flip them over and cook for a further minute.

These can be used anytime, which means no waste, and this also makes sure that you don’t place too much mixture into the pancake pan at one time.
